Memorial Day BBQ Ideas
Memorial Day BBQ Ideas

Memorial Day is upon us, and while it serves as a day to remember those who died in active military service for our country, it is customarily celebrated with family gatherings and BBQs. While traditional hamburgers and potato salad may be tasty, they aren’t exactly bariatric friendly. The bun and the potatoes add bulk and simple carbohydrates that can fill up gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, and adjustable lap band patients. We’ve gathered some alternate BBQ menu options, that are more in line with the high protein, high fiber, lower carbohydrate diet that bariatric patients often follow. Two good rules to follow even on holiday weekends are: stop eating when you feel full; and don’t drink your calories. Following those two guidelines will save you guilt and help you focus your energy on your post bariatric surgery weight loss.

  • Shrimp and Garlic Kabobs
  • Chicken and Pepper Kabobs
  • Cilantro marinated Chicken
  • Steak
  • Lime Marinated Salmon
  • Grilled Pineapple
  • Chipotle Corn on the Cob
  • Fresh vegetables grilled in a foil pouch
  • Grilled Sweet Potato Wedges
  • Grilled Peaches

Whatever you decide to make, take your time to eat, chew your food carefully, and enjoy your meal!
