With school starting soon, pickups, drop offs, after school sports, activities, and homework will soon crowd the afternoon and evenings of parents and children in South Florida. All this activity can sometimes lead to eating out or ordering in. That doesn’t just add to expenses, but can add to your waistline also.

But, it doesn’t have to. In order to fit in all activities and a home cooked meal, parents need an arsenal of quick and easy weeknight dinner recipes in their back pockets. These recipes often don’t require a lot of prep time or cooking time, use a small number of commonly used ingredients, can please a group of people, and don’t use every dish and utensil in the kitchen to prepare.

This recipe for Creole Shrimp could quickly become one of those recipes. It’s high in protein, which is good for bariatric patients and people at a healthy weight alike, and lower in calories than many take out meals. Most of the ingredients are staples in many kitchens or only require a quick stop at the regular grocery store on the way home. Once the shrimp are thawed, this recipe cooks up quickly, which is perfect for busy parents. Also, you can serve it with the sides your family likes best in order to please your crowd. Grits would work well, as would brown rice, cauliflower rice, or quinoa
